Stephen Lewis S.S. (gr.9 Science classes, March - May - Park 403/Sawmill Creek) and Fallingbroom M.S. (gr.7 Science classes, April - June) - Creditview Wetland- Carolyn Creek  will partner-up once again with Tutored by Nature. The students and teachers will participate in a series of excursions on/in local ecosystems (see images). The purpose of the excursions is to develop personal knowledge - Nature relationship, through eco-stewardship and eco-aesthetics. Do you recognize the two ecosystems? Very special places in Mississauga and on the Credit River Watershed. Is there an 'Urban Wilderness' near your school?



S.L.S.S. ...So Many Winners - Congrats to All

N.J.'s "50 Shades of Autumn"- a worthy recipient of the $50.00 gift certificate donated by Tutored by Nature Inc. for the water-colour entries. Lots of competition N.J. including another water-colour you submitted. Check out some of the others in the slide show. See! Sorry that you didn't get to feed those chick-a-dees! N.J.'s log book was full of wonderous thoughts, questions and images.

 Z.A.'s "Almost Maple Leaf" was one of three amazing photos submitted - all three were under consideration. Part of Z.A.'s story included that she thought that this looked a bit like the Maple Leaf and "This plant was eye-catching because of it's vibrant colours, and the way the colours blended in with each other made it look captivating." Congrats on receiving your $50.00 gift certificate Z. There were so many great photos - a credit to the gr.9's at S.L.S.S.

Last but not least - U.M. receives the pencil sketch award (also a $50.00 gift certificate) - a"Logbook Pencil Sketch" entry. Titles within are "Purple Flower", "Beautiful" and "Ugly". He submitted 3 pencil sketches that were all worthy - straight out of the logbook. Interesting comparison between your backyard environment and Park 403, U. Is the "Purple Flower" in this sketch, native or non-native? Check out a couple of the other pencil sketches in the slide show?

 

 

Fall 2012: Sense of Aesthetics - Stephen Lewis S.S.and Upper Sawmill Creek Sub-Watershed

Many Stephen Lewis S.S. gr.9 science students (35 students, 150 entries) have submitted amazing logbook entries/pencil sketches (b) water-colour sketches, and (c) photos to Tutored by Nature. The art work respresents some of their 'eco' experiences while participating in excursions to Park 403 forest and Sixteen Mile Creek corridor this fall.  You can view select images in the slide show - opposite this article.

Stephen Lewis S.S. Fall 2012 - Watershed Excursions

Stephen Lewis S.S. grade 9 students will once again be participating in Eco-Stewardship Excursions into Park 403 (Thomas St.-Tenth Line) and nearby Sixteen Mile creek corridor. Ecologically, students will come-to-know about local community impact on relationships within these fractionated sub-watershed ecosytems. Teachers have once again looked to Tutored by Nature Inc to focus experience through eco-aesthetics. Stay tuned.

STEPHEN LEWIS SCIENCE STUDENTS EXPERIENCE THE ISSUES

SIGN OF THE TIMES... Grade 9 science students and Grade 11 Biology students at Stephen Lewis S.S. have completed their Tutored by Nature Inc eco-stewardship excursions at Park 403 (City designated name). The participants were very concerned by the current and future impact of townhouse development (see picture) on habitat, water quality, and the 4 ecosystems within (Upper Sawmill Creek, Park 403 Forest, a small Fen and Vernal Pool.

Stay tuned as Tutored by Nature inc will post their sense of relationship - the students' pencil/water-colour sketches, photography and loggings. Ecological issues become quite clear when the students get involved in such an experience.

4th ANNUAL CREDITVIEW WETLAND BOGFEST

CREDITVIEW WETLAND'S BOGFEST 4 - A FUN, MEANINGFUL WAY TO CONNECT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO THIS VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN THE HEART OF MISSISSAUGA. WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT THE CWS COMMITTEE, RICK HANSEN'S ECOTREK and Ms. STALTERI'S LEADERSHIP TEAM, PAT, CITY PARKS AND FORESTRY, CVC, COUNCILLOR STARR AND HIS STAFF, ADIL'S FAMILY AND THE 100 CARING COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO PARTICIPATED. 'PEYA ECOBUZZ 2011' - SKETCH, PAINT & SHOOT GIFT CERTICATES AWARDED TO...

Congratulations all. Tutored by Nature Inc visited schools and presented artists and photographers with their gift certificates. .

Photography winners Virginia (Ginni) Hang (Bramalea S.S.) and Aniqa Khan (Port Credit S.S.) each received an $85.00 photo course gift certificate donated by Henry's. Both submitted an excellent series of photos accompanied by a blend of poetic/ecological language that creatively described experience.

Sania Siddique (Port Credit S.S.) - pencil sketch "Paw Prints" (on left) and Canna Liang (Bramalea S.S.) - pencil sketch "Distance Between the Worlds" each received $50.00 Henry's Photo product gift certificates. It's difficult to grasp that the artists sauntered outdoors, then created their subjects and log entries within 50 minutes.

Team Winners Bushra Bashir (Stephen Lewis S.S.) and  Meghna Rajendran (The Woodlands S.S.) created an amazing language/art connection in their log book, water-colour sketches and photography. They believe "The 4 worlds (here)... all interconnect ... but are not in perfect harmony...humans have begun neglecting the worlds around them (as) can be seen on this part of the Credit River Watershed".

Team Winners Prabhjot Khabra and Navjot Kaur - both from Heart Lake S.S. also were presented with team gift certificates. Their combined art work - water-colour and pencil sketches "The Lonely Beautiful World" , "Animal World - Feather" demonstrate that all four worlds are present here, just west of David Suzuki S.S. Each of the teams received $40.00 product gift certificates for DeSerre's Art Store.

PEYA ECOBUZZ CONFERENCE (FALL 2011) - OUTDOOR ART WORKSHOP

Tutored by Nature Inc selected from over 60       pencil/water-colur sketches and photos as particpants sauntered the Credit River urban wilderness - on the Churchville Tributary riparian.  Check out the slide show to the right for prize-winning art and honourable mentions.                

Teams were set up - then off we went to seek a 'sense' of balance of the four worlds of Nature as described by the Ojibwa culture - firstly the Physical World, then the Plant World, next the Animal World and lastly, the Human World. Hope that all connected in some way experientially from the excursion. Check out the slide show for some of the amazing art work. Did we find Balance?
